Union Home Ministry’s 27th May directive has
initiated the ghost of linguistic arcade. The directive issued to the
government departments made the use of Hindi compulsory in their social media
conversations. Parties belonging to the non-Hindi states proclaimed the
directive against the multiculturalism of Indian State. Presenting an
alternate opinion writes Vishank Singh.

Thanks to the campaigns lead by DMK, ADMK and many Left
forces, Hindi will again be humiliated on the land where it was born. Her fate
is similar to a daughter who struggles to maintain her status on the
patriarchal platforms. My argument is based on the fact that Hindi besides
being the unique language of our nation binds us together not as a Hindibhashi
but as a ‘Hindustani’. With all the southern parties and the opportunist ping
pings politicizing the matter of national pride and honor to Hindi want their
vote share to exist in their respective empires. With my concern over Hindi and
her fate I must affirm my conviction that Hindi is more than an official
language not only for me but also for the ones in Chennai and Srinagar.
I may not be the patron of Modi Sarkaar but still want to
support the directive which must not be seen with political glasses. There must
be an approach from the cultural and social viewpoint to understand this whole
scenario. Promoting Hindi is in no way declining the existence to Malayalam or
Tamil. Whether you support my view or not is the discourse of your own
principle but still there needs to be an understanding. If as an Indian we
would not promote Hindi then who else would take the course? You may ask that
why only Hindi? I would say because it is the common denominator of Indian
emotions which sees no boundaries and directions. Hindi, the unique identity of
India is not only the vanguard of Indian communication but also serves as an
adhesive which binds us together. The fact we need to admit is that by
appreciating Hindi nobody becomes the enemy of any other language. If the
Indian state feels that with use of ‘Hindi’ it could reach more and more people
then what harm will it be to embrace this decision. Have we lost all our
national consciousness under the gumshoe of petty politics?

With AIDMK and DMK politicizing the matter, Hindi would
again have to face an enduring humiliation

It makes democracy merely a distant dream when some of the
selfish politicians in the name of language and ethnicity play with the
sentiments of millions. After the issued directive it was the turn of these
divisive politicians who captured the space in no time. DMK chief M. Karunanidhi
came harsh against the directive. With DMK shining its political medals over
the issue it was a danger for AIDMK to remain silent. Not wasting much time
‘Amma’ instantly wrote a letter to the Prime Minister expressing her
dissatisfaction regarding the whole decision. Followed by MDMK and Left parties
the battle to assault Hindi started in the social networking sites. The voice
of protest also came from Srinagar when Omar Abdullah came with his discontent
against the promotion of Hindi. He held the directive to be dictatorial against
the diversity of the nation. In the back drop of these political Capitalists earning profits
the exploitation of Hindi seems enduring and inevitable.
These politicians and ideologues of pseudo-left forces must
realize that as Hindi is the largest spoken language in the nation its
elevation is necessary for the betterment of other languages. How other languages
would be promoted when we are not determined to do it for the one that is on
the tongue of the most? With this idea in mind we must contemplate
on the issue not following the whips decided by the political bosses but by our
own conscience. If Union government wants to promote Hindi the nation must
accept the idea as it will not be a threat to Tamil, Telegu or Dogri in any of
the sense. Uniting for Hindi will pave the way for a unified Hindustan.
